Bruce Schneier reports that AT&T is maneuvering to ensure that AT&T and not the customer owns the customer’s data. Think about that for a moment.
There are three ways to play this:
- Do nothing – the majority will choose this approach
- Provide AT&T with fake information when you sign up – possible legal ramifications for customers who do this
- Find another company to do business with
In light of today’s nanny state environment, options two and three look attractive to me. In fact, I’ve long been toying with the idea of changing my identity, not because I have something to hide, but because I consider privacy an innate right. We’ll see.
