Jeffrey Ake shown in hostage video

I would bet my paycheck that a) he was relying on someone else for his personal security and b) that someone else was nowhere to be found when Mr. Ake was kidnapped.

Yes, it’s another kidnapped American on video pleading for his life. What I don’t get is why these people aren’t heavily armed to begin with. How is it that they are allowing themselves to be kidnapped in the first place?

If it were I, and I know I’m just being an armchair quarterback here, I do believe I would die in a firefight rather than allow myself to be taken hostage by savages known for holding down folks and sawing their heads off on video. I realize that I may not have control over how and when I die, but if the choice is between getting riddled with bullets or having my head sawed off slowly while fully conscious, I believe I’ll take the bullets.

Knowing how retarded we are here at home about allowing our citizens to carry personal weapons for self defense, I wonder – was Jeffrey Ake carrying a firearm of any type? I would bet my paycheck that a) he was relying on someone else for his personal security and b) that someone else was nowhere to be found when Mr. Ake was kidnapped.

I hope Mr. Ake survives his ordeal, but he should have been better prepared, and willing to defend himself. Iraq is no place for unarmed American civilians, period.
