Jennifer Wilbanks and Ching, The Random Thinker

I just came across Ching’s Random Thoughts. . . in relation to Jennifer Wilbanks and well, Ching inspired me to make a comment.

Here’s a sample of Ching’s thinking:

This runaway bride who skipped town, Jennifer Wilbanks, deserves to be held accountable and spend jail time and/or community service for wasting manpower and resources.

And of course, my response: She deserves several hundred hours of community service, nothing more. She just needs to grow up.

Out of curiousity, if the media talking about this story is a problem, and bloggers are part of the new media, and you’re a blogger, and you’re talking about this story, aren’t you part of the problem?

Why not find a half-African, half-Korean woman who ran away from her wedding and lied about being kidnapped to write about? You could start a new trend.

All you people around the nation who are calling for jail time should think twice. We have enough serious problems in this country without throwing every immature 32-year-old narcisscist with poor decision making skills into jail.

Please remember that this nation already has the highest rate of incarceration per capita of all the so-called civilized nations. I think we need to slow down a little bit.

Yes, Jennifer Wilbanks is an idiot. But she didn’t do anything violent and her fraud didn’t cause anyone irreparable harm. Community service and counseling are in order. Nothing more.
