So yes, I saw my “opportunity to say something lewd and offensive.” And I took it. She had just said something about gay marriage, the typical rightwing bullshit spiel that is still convincing people that the Bible is really the Constitution. After reading this article at the Daily Kos, I’m not such a big fan of Ann Coulter. To be fair, I never was in the first place.
However, I have a real problem with people being arrested for asking a question that might be offensive to some.
Look, people, I’m neither conservative or liberal. Both groups have a lot of screwed up people representing them, or at least making the claim that they are. Arresting someone for being distasteful is not kosher. Get it?
I’m talking to both sides of the idiotic ball of psychobabble that is modern American politics. Chill out and be glad this kid was expressing himself in a non-violent way.
As stated in the Texan article, I am charged with Disorderly Conduct, which is a Class C Misdemeanor. Other Class C Misdemeanors include DWIs, possession of drug paraphernalia, and speeding tickets. Without getting into the justification for all of those, were my naughty words and crude hand motions as imposing a danger?
It would have been perfectly appropriate to escort Ajai Raj out of the building if his question was a faux pas. Nothing more is warranted. Ann Coulter, if you’re a decent human being, you should request that the charges be dropped.
You dish out a lot of harsh statements – allow this college student his one provocative question. After all, he had a point.
